Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert Unix timestamps (Epoch time) to human-readable dates and vice versa. Type a timestamp in seconds or milliseconds, or pick a date — both fields stay synchronized. View the result in UTC, local time, ISO 8601, and as a relative time (e.g. “3 hours ago”).
What is a Unix timestamp?
A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds elapsed since January 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC (the “Unix epoch”). It’s used everywhere in computing because it’s timezone-independent and easy to compare or arithmetic with.
Common use cases
- Reading log files and database records
- Debugging API responses (most APIs use Unix timestamps)
- Setting expiration dates for tokens (JWT, cookies)
- Converting between programming languages and time zones
- Cron job scheduling and crontab debugging
Seconds vs milliseconds
Most APIs use seconds (10-digit numbers like 1704067200). JavaScript and some modern APIs use milliseconds (13-digit numbers like 1704067200000). Toggle the unit above to switch.
