The three formats explained
- HEX (#RRGGBB): the web standard. Six hexadecimal digits encoding red, green, blue. Compact, but not very human-readable. Example:
#585BE8 - RGB: three values from 0 to 255 — how much red, green, and blue. Maps directly to display pixel intensity. Example:
rgb(88, 91, 232) - HSL: hue (0–360°, the position on the color wheel), saturation (0–100%, how vivid), lightness (0–100%, dark to light). Best for designing palettes — change one value and the others stay the same. Example:
hsl(239, 76%, 63%)
Tips
- Use HSL for variations: need a darker shade? Reduce L. A muted version? Reduce S. The hue stays exact
