Sort Lines Alphabetically — Free Online Line Sorter
Sort any list of lines alphabetically — ascending or descending, case-sensitive, natural numeric order, locale-aware, with optional deduplication and trimming. Free, in-browser.
Sort Lines Alphabetically — Clean Up Any List in Seconds
Paste any list — names, words, URLs, log lines, anything — and instantly get it sorted alphabetically. Pick ascending or descending, toggle case sensitivity, enable natural sort for numbered items, deduplicate, trim, and remove empty lines. Everything runs in your browser, so the data never leaves your device.
Sorting options
- Ascending (A → Z) or descending (Z → A): two big buttons, one click
- Case-sensitive: off by default — “Apple” and “apple” group together. Turn on to sort uppercase before lowercase
- Natural sort: “item2” comes before “item10” instead of the lexical order where “item10” would come first. Perfect for filenames, version numbers, IDs
- Locale-aware: respects diacritics and language-specific rules (é before f in French, etc.)
Cleanup options
- Remove empty lines: blank lines and whitespace-only lines are removed
- Trim whitespace: leading and trailing spaces/tabs are stripped from each line
- Remove duplicates: identical lines collapse to one (respects the case-sensitivity setting)
What you get back
A clean, sorted list — copyable in one click or downloadable as .txt. A summary line tells you how many lines came in and how many came out, useful when deduplication or empty-line removal changed the count.
Common uses
- Organizing word lists, vocabulary lists, name lists
- Sorting URLs, email addresses, IP addresses
- Cleaning up imports before pasting into a database
- Sorting filenames or version tags naturally
- Preparing alphabetized references and bibliographies
