Find and Replace Text — Free Online Tool with Regex Support

Find and replace any text instantly. Case-sensitive option, whole-word mode, full regular expression support with multiline and dotAll flags. Live preview, match count, copy & download.

Find and Replace Text — Bulk Edit Any String with Confidence

Search and replace text inside a block of content with live preview, a real-time match count, and optional regular expression mode. Whether you’re correcting a typo across an article, renaming a variable in code, or applying complex regex transformations, this tool handles it — all client-side, with nothing uploaded.

Modes

  • Plain text: the default — special regex characters like ., *, ?, $ are treated literally
  • Whole word only: match the term only when surrounded by non-word characters (so “cat” won’t match inside “category”)
  • Regular expression: full JavaScript regex syntax — capture groups, lookarounds, quantifiers, character classes
  • Multiline (m flag): ^ and $ match line breaks, not just the start and end of the entire text
  • Dot matches newlines (s flag): makes the . wildcard span line breaks too

Live feedback

  • Type and see the result update immediately
  • The match count appears next to “Result” — e.g. “(3 replacements)”
  • Invalid regex shows a clear error message so you can fix it

Common uses

  • Fix a typo or rename a term throughout a long document
  • Convert American spellings to British (or vice versa) by chaining searches
  • Strip phone numbers, emails or other patterns with regex
  • Normalize whitespace, line endings, or formatting
  • Rename variables across a code snippet
  • Apply complex transformations to CSV or log data

Regex quick reference

  • . any character (except newline, unless dotAll is on)
  • \d digit, \w word char, \s whitespace
  • [abc] character class, [^abc] negation
  • * 0+, + 1+, ? 0 or 1, {n,m} range
  • (group) capture, then reference in replacement with $1, $2…
